A safer at-home approach
For actual age spots/sun spots, dermatologists recommend proven ingredients such as vitamin C, retinoids, azelaic acid, glycolic acid, or kojic acid. Fading takes time rather than minutes.
Simple routine:
- Morning: gentle cleanser.
- Apply a dark-spot product containing vitamin C or azelaic acid.
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every day. Sun exposure can keep spots dark.
- Evening: gentle cleanser, followed by a retinoid/retinol product if your skin tolerates it.
- Give it several weeks to months, rather than expecting a 10-minute result.
Also, if a spot is new, changing, bleeding, itching, or very different from your other spots, have a dermatologist examine it rather than trying to bleach it at home.
