If you mean stains on the toilet seat/cover, baking soda + vinegar can help with surface grime, but stubborn yellow/brown stains may need a different approach.
Baking soda + vinegar method
You’ll need:
-
½ cup baking soda
-
¼ cup white vinegar
-
A few drops of dish soap
-
Warm water
-
Soft sponge or microfiber cloth
-
Old toothbrush (for edges/hinges)
-
Gloves
Steps:
-
Remove the toilet seat/cover if possible. This makes it much easier to clean around the hinges and underside.
-
Rinse/wipe first with warm water to remove loose dirt.
-
Mix ½ cup baking soda + a few drops of dish soap with enough warm water to make a thick paste.
-
Spread the paste over the stained areas.
-
Let it sit for 15–20 minutes.
-
Gently scrub with a non-abrasive sponge or soft toothbrush.
-
Now spray or drizzle ¼ cup white vinegar over the remaining paste. Let it fizz for 5–10 minutes.
-
Gently scrub again.
-
Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
-
For stubborn spots, repeat once rather than using a harsh abrasive.
Important: Don’t mix vinegar with bleach or chlorine-based toilet cleaners. Also avoid steel wool, scouring powder, or rough scrubbers—they can permanently scratch plastic and make future staining worse.
If the stains are yellow/orange, brown, black, or look like discoloration that’s actually inside the plastic, tell me which they look like (or send a photo), because the best treatment is different.
