Pain on the left side of the body can come from many different causes. 1. Left-sided chest pain (most important to consider)

Warning signs that make heart problems more likely:

2. Left upper abdominal pain
The left upper abdomen contains the:

- Bloating, burping, cramps
- Gastritis or stomach ulcer
- Burning pain, worse or better after eating
- Pancreas problems

- Enlargement or inflammation of the spleen
3. Left lower abdominal pain
Possible causes:
- Constipation
- Cramping, difficulty passing stool
- Diverticulitis
- Infection/inflammation of small pouches in the colon
- Often causes left lower abdominal pain, fever, and bowel changes
- Kidney stone
- Severe pain that may move toward the groin
- Possible blood in urine

- Burning while urinating, frequent urination
In women, left lower abdominal pain can also be related to:

Kidney-related pain is often deeper and may come with:
- Fever

5. Left arm, shoulder, or hand pain
Possible causes:
- Muscle injury
- Nerve irritation from the neck
- Joint problems
However, left arm pain combined with chest discomfort, breathing difficulty, sweating, or nausea can be a sign of a heart emergency.
6. Left side body pain with numbness or weakness
If pain occurs with:
- Weakness on one side of the body
- Face drooping
- Trouble speaking
- Confusion
- Sudden severe headache
it may indicate a stroke and requires emergency help.
7. Nerve-related causes
Pain affecting one side of the body can come from nerves, such as:
- Pinched nerves in the spine
- Neuropathy (nerve damage)
- Shingles (pain followed by a blistering rash)
Nerve pain may feel like:
- Burning
- Electric shocks
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Pins and needles
Seek urgent medical care if left-side pain includes:
- Chest pressure or squeezing pain
- Pain spreading to the left arm, jaw, or back
- Difficulty breathing
- Fainting
- Sudden weakness or numbness on one side
- Severe abdominal pain
- Vomiting blood or black stools
- High fever with severe pain
