A popular version of this recipe uses cabbage plus three main ingredients: butter, brown sugar, and simple seasonings. Another variation uses butter, garlic, and smoked paprika.
Slow Cooker Cabbage Wedges (3-Ingredient Style)
Servings: 4–6
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 4–6 hours on Low or 2–3 hours on High
Ingredients
- 1 large green cabbage
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Optional:
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage
- Remove any damaged outer leaves.
- Rinse and pat dry.
- Cut the cabbage into 6–8 wedges, leaving the core attached so the wedges stay together while cooking.
- Season
- Arrange the wedges in a single layer in the slow cooker if possible.
- Sprinkle lightly with salt and black pepper.
- Dot each wedge with butter.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the cabbage.
- Cook
- Cover with the lid.
- Cook on Low for 4–6 hours or High for 2–3 hours, until the cabbage is tender but still holds its shape.
- About halfway through cooking, spoon the melted butter and juices over the wedges to keep them moist and flavorful.
- Serve
- Carefully transfer the wedges to a serving platter.
- Spoon the buttery cooking juices over the top.
- Garnish with parsley if desired.
Tips
- For a savory version, add 1 teaspoon garlic powder and ½ teaspoon smoked paprika.
- Sprinkle with grated Parmesan before serving.
- Serve alongside roast chicken, pork chops, ham, smoked sausage, or mashed potatoes.
The cabbage becomes tender and slightly sweet, while the butter creates a rich sauce that coats each wedge.
