The “M” on an RSVP card usually means “Mr.”, “Mrs.”, “Ms.”, or “Miss”—it’s a traditional way to prompt you to write your title before your name.
For example:
M __________________________
You might fill it in as:
- Mr. John Smith
- Mrs. Jane Smith
- Ms. Taylor Johnson
- Miss Emily Johnson
Why is there an “M”?
The M is the beginning of the word “Mr./Mrs./Ms./Miss.” Instead of printing every possible title, the card gives you the “M” and you complete it.
So if the RSVP says:
M __________________________
you would write something like:
Ms. Sarah Williams
Important: It doesn’t mean “male”
The M does not necessarily mean you should write “Mr.” It is simply a traditional RSVP-card convention that lets you choose the appropriate title.
