If you’re looking for a quick homemade ant remedy, there isn’t a method that reliably gets rid of an entire ant infestation in 4 minutes. You can, however, reduce visible ants quickly and use a simple bait to eliminate the colony over time.
Fast spray (kills ants on contact)
Mix in a spray bottle:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 10–15 drops peppermint or tea tree essential oil (optional)
Spray directly on ants and wipe them away. Then clean the trail to remove the scent they use to guide other ants.
Homemade ant bait (works over several days)
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon borax
- 2 tablespoons warm water
Directions:
- Stir until dissolved.
- Soak small pieces of cotton or place a few drops on small pieces of cardboard.
- Put the bait near ant trails, away from children and pets.
- Allow ants to carry the bait back to the nest. You may see more ants at first; this is normal. The colony typically declines over several days.
Important: Keep borax baits out of reach of children and pets. If you prefer a pet-safe approach, use the vinegar spray for immediate cleanup and seal cracks or entry points to prevent ants from returning.
