A homemade baking soda skin cream is simple to make, but it’s important to know that baking soda can be harsh on the skin. Its high alkalinity can disrupt the skin’s natural protective barrier, causing dryness, irritation, or redness, especially on the face or sensitive skin.
Simple Baking Soda Skin Paste
Ingredients
1 tablespoon baking soda
1–2 tablespoons water
Optional: 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel for a gentler mixture
Instructions
1. Place the baking soda in a small bowl.
2. Add water gradually while stirring until a smooth paste forms.
3. If using aloe vera gel, mix it in thoroughly.
4. Apply a thin layer to the desired area.
5. Leave on for no more than 1–2 minutes.
6. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
7. Apply a moisturizer afterward.
For Hands or Feet (Less Sensitive Areas)
Ingredients
2 tablespoons baking soda
1 tablespoon coconut oil
Instructions
1. Mix the ingredients into a smooth paste.
2. Gently massage onto rough skin for 30–60 seconds.
3. Rinse off and apply moisturizer.
Safety Notes
Avoid using baking soda on the face if you have sensitive, dry, or acne-prone skin.
Do not use on broken, irritated, or sunburned skin.
Perform a patch test on a small area first.
Stop use if you experience burning, itching, or redness.
If your goal is skin brightening, acne care, or exfoliation, there are generally safer and more effective ingredients than baking soda, such as aloe vera, niacinamide, or gentle chemical exfoliants. Let me know your skin concern, and I can suggest a recipe that is better suited to it.
